MSDN TV Talks on Secure Software

MSDN published a couple nice shorts on secure testing and secure development recently. They have a very… home video type quality to them and they can be hard to listen to, but they do raise some very good points about how to design, implement and test applications with security in mind. I think far too many developers don’t think about these kind of issues and it’s really to their and their applications deteriment.

Shuttles and Heat Monitoring

So I just picked up a Shuttle XPC and decided to throw an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro in it. The 9500 has a built-on fan to keep it cool, so I was getting a little worried about the small Shuttle case keeping cool. I found a peice of freeware called Motherboard Monitor that will work for me, but I was wondering if there’s anything else out there that people like. Any suggestions?

Thank God I got a sane name

Dear Mom & Dad,
Thank you for not being these parents and for giving me a sane name like Ben. Calling me Benjy for so many years wasn’t my favorite thing, but I’ll let that slide. At least I’m not a Japheth or a Willoughby. I would hate to have to go through all the hassle of changing mine once I turn 18 like so many of these kids will probably have to do.

Even more publishing

Apparently the Microsoft Academic Alliance really like the two articles I wrote for ondotnet.com, so they asked my permission to republish them. You can find the same two articles, Basic Crypto w/ .NET and Configuration in .NET, over on their site. The crypto article is going to be featured on their front page sometime today, which is pretty cool.
