Third

Portishead is finally coming out with a new album, Third. Last.fm has the full album available for a test listen, and you can pre-order it over on Amazon. So far, I really like it, but I think I’m going to wait to see if it becomes available through the MP3 store before diving in.

Silvia *hearts* Wii

Thanks to Chet for finding this awesome hack for the Rancilio Silvia. Mandy and I depend on ours nearly every morning to wake us up, and though I’ve hacked a PID into mine, I don’t think I’ll be going this far. Still, it’s pretty freaking awesome.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics

From an article on elevator safety in the New Yorker:

An average of twenty-six people die in (or on) elevators in the United States every year, but most of these are people being paid to work on them. That may still seem like a lot, until you consider that that many die in automobiles every five hours.

Remember that number. Around twenty-six people die in cars every five hours. Remember it when you read any other statistic involving deaths related to a product over the course of a year to help you keep perspective on how big the risk really is.
